Overview
From the T-1 station a short scramble onto the lateral moraine ridge above the left bank of the glacier reaches the Ordzhonikidze cirque viewpoint, gaining roughly 100 m over 30 minutes of rough walking on loose rock. The cirque is bordered by the Ordzhonikidze, Partizan, and Pioneer peaks, all over 4,000 m. The view takes in the full extent of the Tuyuksu glacier group — nine glaciers in total, covering 2.27 km² as of 2016, down 23% from their 1958 extent. The moraine deposits visible on both flanks mark the glacier's higher position as recently as the mid-20th century. Return to the T-1 station before beginning the descent.
