Overview
From the eco-post parking area, a dirt road follows the Butakovka River upstream through spruce and birch forest. The first 1.8 km is a gradual incline along the river bank; the path is broad and well-marked. After crossing a small bridge the trail narrows and begins to climb more steeply. Two or three river crossings on stepping stones or log bridges break up the ascent — in late May and June these can be slippery with snowmelt. The Lower Butakovka Waterfall, dropping roughly 30 m over a dark rock face, appears at around the 3 km mark after roughly 1.5–2 hours of walking.
